Stqarrija maħruġa mill-Uffiċċju tal-MEP Miriam Dalli

Il-Membru Parlamentari Ewropew Miriam Dalli bdiet diskussjonijiet mal-Fondazzjoni Acronis biex jitfassal program ta’ taħriġ fl-IT u Artificial Intelligencespeċifikament għal bniet u tfajliet.

Waqt żjara li għamlet fl-uffiċini tal-kumpanija Parallels f’Tas-Sliema, Dr Dalli qalet kif f’dawn l-aħħar snin is-settur tat-teknoloġija kompla jikber b’mod sostanjzali f’pajjiżna, u dan mistenni jkompli jikberaktar bit-tfassil ta’ qafas legali għas-settur tal-blockchain, li qed ipoġġi lil pajjiżna fuq quddiem nett f’din in-niċċa ekonomika ġdida.

Madanakollu, ftit humat-tfajliet u nisa li jħarsu lejn is-settur tat-teknoloġija bħala l-qasam li fih jistgħu jibnu l-karriera tagħhom, spjegat Miriam Dalli.

Statistika ricenti maħruġa mill-Università ta’ Malta turi kif,għas-sena akkademika 2017-2018,minn 378 student,fil-fakulta tal-Informazzjoni u t-Tekonoloġija,70 biss huma tfajliet.

“Permezz ta’ programmi ta’ taħriġ immirati speċifikament lejn tfajliet u bniet sa minn eta żgħira inkunu qed inneħħu l-perċezzjoni li dan huwa aktar settur tal-irġiel filwaqt li naċċertaw ruħna li dan is-settur joffri opportunitajiet lil kulħadd,” spjegat Dalli.

Dr Miriam Dalli qalet, li dan il-proġett flimkien mat-tagħlim tal-coding fl-iskejjel tagħna, hekk kif imwiegħed minn Gvern Laburista, jista’ jgħinbiex aktar tfajliet u bniet iħarsu lejn l-industrija tat-teknoloġija bħala karriera futura tagħhom.

John Zanni, il-President tal-kumpanija Acronis u l-Fondazzjoni Acronis spjega kif dan il-proġett ta’ taħriġ fit-teknoloġija lil bniet u tfajliet  jista’ jkun parti mill-ħidma tal-Fondazzjoni biex tifrex it-tagħlim f’dan is-settur. Dan il-proġett f’Malta jista’ jikkumplimenta proġetti oħra ta’ riċerka u ta’taħriġ li diġa qed tagħmel Acronis Foundation f’Singapore fejn għandhom programmi ta’ taħriġ għal gruppi differenti.

MEP Miriam Dalli and Acronis Foundation in discussions to develop training programme encouraging more women to join IT sector

Talks are currently underway between Member of European Parliament Miriam Dalli and Acronis Foundation to develop a training programme in IT and Artificial Intelligence, in a bid to encourage more women to join the industry.

During a visit to Parallels offices in Sliema, Dr Dalli explained how the technology sector in Malta has continued to grow in a substantial manner, and is expected to continue growing, after the recent establishment of a regulatory framework for Blockchain, placing Malta at the forefront of this new economic niche.

However, there are still very few women who opt for a career in the technology sector, Miriam Dalli said.

Statistics issued by the University of Malta show how only 70 of the 378 students enrolled in the Faculty of IT are women.

“Training programmes aimed specifically at girls and young women obliterate the perception that technology is a sector for males while ensuring that this sector offers equal opportunities for all,” Dalli said.

Dr Miriam Dalli added that this project, together with teaching coding in our schools as promised by Labour Government, can encourage more girls to look at technology as a prospective career.

John Zanni, President of Acronis and Acronis Foundation, explained how this training project for young girls and women can be part of the Foundation’s work to spread knowledge in the IT and Artificial Intelligence sectors. This project in Malta can complement other research and training projects which Acronis Foundation is already providing to different groups in Singapore, he said.
