Republic Street in Valletta has been enhanced through new street lighting installations carried out by Enemalta plc. The project is aimed at giving a brighter and enhanced look in one of the most frequented pedestrian streets in Malta, by changing the street lighting which had been used for decades.
Enemalta, in collaboration with the Valletta Local Council, kicked off this project aimed at changing the street lighting to a more efficient system with the latest technology.
This project, with an investment of €350,000, is part of an ongoing project aimed at enhancing several streets in Valletta. In the first phase of the project, Enemalta’s technical team installed 125 streetlamps on both sides of the street, from Teatru Rjal to St George’s Square. These streetlamps were upgraded to more efficient ones equipped with the latest technology.
Through the completion of this project, electricity consumption will be halved.
Following the completion of the first phase of the project, preparations for the second phase of this project are underway, wherein the brightness of street lighting will be automated and controlled as required.
During a visit with members of the Valletta Local Council, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli expressed satisfaction for the implementation of this project.
“This is solely the first phase of this project which will be enhancing the streetscape of our capital city. By introducing digital technologies, this newly installed lighting will be controlled automatically to brighten or dim these lights as required for different scenes. Through this project, our capital city’s rich architecture is enhanced by street lighting of the highest level, while offering security to pedestrians,” said Minister Miriam Dalli.
Valletta Mayor Alfred Zammit expressed satisfaction that a proposal the Valletta Local Council put forward, to enhance the appearance of Valletta with a new lighting system, is now being implemented. “Thanks to this project, historic buildings along Republic Street will regain their dignity in our capitalcity,” stated the mayor.
Enemalta’s Divisional Manager responsible for Street Lighting, Ing Norman Zammit, said that this project is intended to bring added value to the capitalcity through the use of the most recent technologies that enhance energy efficiency. He continued that this project was targeted at providing the necessary lighting to Republic Street to render it safe and enjoyable to walk through.
Through other investments, Enemalta is working on several similar projects in various localities.
Sistema ta’ dwal ġdida għal Triq ir-Repubblika fil-Belt Valletta
Triq ir-Repubblika fil-Belt Valletta qed tingħata dehra ġdida grazzi għall-installazzjoni ta’ dwal ġodda li qed tagħmel Enemalta plc. Dan l-investiment huwa immirat biex jdawwal din it-triq prinċipali fil-Belt Valletta b’mod aħjar u aktar effiċjenti billi jinbidlu d-dwal qodma li kien ilhom jintużaw għal ħafna snin.
B’kollaborazzjoni bejn il-Kunsill Lokali tal-Belt Valletta u Enemalta, skatta l-proċess biex din is-sistema tinbidel f’waħda aktar moderna u effiċjenti, li tikkonsma inqas enerġija u jdawwal aħjar.
Dan il-proġett, b’investiment ta’ €350,000, huwa l-ewwel fażi minn proġett sħiħ tat-tisħiħ tad-dwal ta’ diversi toroq ewlenin tal-Belt Valletta. F’din l-ewwel fażi, mit-Teatru Rjal sa Pjazza San Ġorġ, il-ħaddiema t’Enemalta installaw 125 lampa tal-aħħar teknoloġija maż-żewġ naħat tat-triq.
Permezz ta’ dan l-investiment, se jkun qed jitnaqqas bin-nofs il-konsum li kien jintuża qabel biex tiddawwal l-istess triq.
Wara li tlestiet l-ewwel fażi, bħalissa għaddejjin it-tħejjijiet għat-tieni fażi ta’ dan il-proġett sabiex il-qawwa ta’ dan id-dawl tkun tista’ tiġi kkontrollata u mibdula skont il-ħtieġa, b’mod awtomatiku.
Waqt żjara flimkien mal-membri tal-Kunsill Lokali tal-Belt Valletta, il-Ministru għall-Ambjent, Enerġija u Intrapriża, Miriam Dalli esprimiet is-sodisfazzjoni tagħha għall-implimentazzjoni ta’ dan il-proġett.
“Din hija biss l-ewwel fażi ta’ proġett li se jkun qed jagħti dehra ġdida lill-Belt Kapitali ta’ pajjiżna. Bl-introduzzjoni ta’ teknoloġija diġitali, id-dawl li qed jiġi installat se jkun qed jiġi kkontrollat b’mezzi awtomatiċi biex jitbaxxa u jogħla skont il-ħtieġa, b’livelli ta’ dawl li jixirqu l-arkitettura tal-Belt filwaqt li joffru sikurezza lil dawk kollha li jgħaddu minnha ta’ kuljum,” qalet il-Ministru Miriam Dalli.
Is-Sindku tal-Belt Valletta, Alfred Zammit qal li jinsab sodisfatt li proposta li ressaq il-Kunsill Lokali tal-Belt sabiex il-Belt Kapitali tingħata dehra ġdida, b’sistema ta’ dwal ġdida, qed titwettaq.
