Shape Your Space: Meeting with Nature Trust Malta on envisioning White Rocks

Shape Your Space: Laqgħa ma’ Nature Trust Malta dwar kif jimmaġinaw il-White Rocks

Il-konsultazzjonijiet ma’ diversi stakeholders dwar il-ħolqien ta’ parks nazzjonali f’White Rocks, Fort Campbell u Manoel Island qed ikomplu b’mod attiv.

Il-Ministru għall-Ambjent u l-Enerġija Miriam Dalli flimkien mat-tim ta’ Project Green, iltaqgħet ma’ Nature Trust Malta sabiex jiddiskutu l-proposti tagħhom għall-White Rocks bħala park nazzjonali.

Matul din il-laqgħa, Nature Trust Malta ppreżentaw numru ta’ ideat u kunċetti innovattivi li għandhom l-għan li jsaħħu l-valur ambjentali, edukattiv u soċjali tas-sit, b’enfasi partikolari fuq l-edukazzjoni ambjentali bl-involviment tat-tfal u tal-familji. Il-laqgħa tifforma parti mill-proċess ta’ konsultazzjoni li għaddej bħalissa dwar it-tliet siti identifikati mill-Gvern, biex minflok ikunu żviluppati kif kien il-pjan għal snin twal, jiġu trasformati f’parks nazzjonali miftuħa għall-pubbliku.

Il-Ministru Dalli saħqet li l-Gvern impenjat li jisma’ u jaħdem ma’ kull min għandu ideat jew suġġerimenti dwar il-futur ta’ dawn is-siti. “Aħna miftuħin għal kull min jixtieq jikkontribwixxi b’ideat dwar dak li jrid jara fil-White Rocks, Fort Campbell u Manoel Island – tliet spazji li identifikajna biex, minflok isir żvilupp fihom, isiru parks nazzjonali. Għalhekk ħadt gost niltaqa’ ma’ Nature Trust Malta, li ppreżentaw diversi ideat innovattivi għal White Rocks. Irridu li l-proposti li joħorġu minn dawn il-laqgħat, flimkien mal-kontribut tal-pubbliku permezz tas-sottomissjonijiet fuq parksinmalta.mt, ikunu l-bażi li fuqha se jiġu ffurmati dawn il-parks nazzjonali,” qalet il-Ministru Dalli.

Min-naħa tiegħu, Johann Gatt, rappreżentant ta’ Nature Trust Malta, spjega li d-diskussjoni ffukat fuq kif il-White Rocks jista’ jservi wkoll bħala spazju edukattiv u inklussiv. “Fil-laqgħa li kellna mal-Ministru ddiskutejna kif sit bħalma huwa White Rocks jista’ jintuża biex jinkoraġġixxi involviment akbar tat-tfal. Aħna nemmnu bis-sħiħ li t-tfal għandhom dritt ikunu parti mid-deċiżjonijiet li se jaffettwaw il-futur tagħhom, u għalhekk ħriġna b’pjan li ħafna mill-ideat tiegħu ġew ispirati mit-tfal stess. Dan il-pjan ġie ppreżentat lill-Ministru bil-għan li jiġi implimentat f’dan is-sit,” qal Gatt.

Shape Your Space: Meeting with Nature Trust Malta on envisioning White Rocks

Consultations with various stakeholders on the creation of national parks at White Rocks, Fort Campbell, and Manoel Island are continuing actively.

Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli, together with the Project Green team, met with Nature Trust Malta to discuss their proposals for White Rocks as a national park.

During the meeting, Nature Trust Malta presented a number of innovative ideas and concepts aimed at strengthening the site’s environmental, educational, and social value, with particular emphasis on environmental education through the involvement of children and families. The meeting forms part of the ongoing consultation process regarding the three sites identified by the Government which, instead of being developed as had long been planned, are to be transformed into national parks open to the public.

Minister Dalli stressed that Government is committed to listening and working with everyone who has ideas or suggestions about the future of these sites. “We are open to anyone who wishes to contribute ideas about what they would like to see at White Rocks, Fort Campbell, and Manoel Island – three spaces that we have identified so that, instead of being developed, they become national parks. For this reason, I was pleased to meet with Nature Trust Malta, who presented several innovative ideas for White Rocks. We want the proposals that emerge from these meetings, together with public contributions through submissions on parksinmalta.mt, to form the basis on which these national parks will be shaped,” said the Minister.

For his part, Johann Gatt, a representative of Nature Trust Malta, explained that the discussion focused on how White Rocks could also serve as an educational and inclusive space. “In the meeting we had with the Minister, we discussed how a site like White Rocks can be used to encourage greater involvement of children. We firmly believe that children have the right to be part of decisions that will affect their future, and for this reason we developed a plan in which many of the ideas were inspired by the children themselves. This plan was presented to the Minister with the aim of being implemented at this site,” said Mr Gatt.
