New Picnic Area in San Klement Park in Żabbar
More than 2,000 metres squared in open spaces returned to the public as a picnic area in San Klement Park, Żabbar, to be accessible to all residents.
This extension has been officially inaugurated by the Minister for the Environment Miriam Dalli, together with the CEO of Project Green Steve Ellul, after work conducted to regenerate the area.
In this area, more than 250 trees and shrubs have been planted while part of the wall of the football ground is being treated with Jasmine to create a natural green wall. The regeneration of the garden included the removal of invasive species and the installation of benches made from sustainable material. Moreover, with the reinstatement of the surrounding rubble wall and chainage fencing, this green open space became safer.
“Project Green, by planting more trees and with minimal intervention, returned this new picnic area to the community as a safer and more comfortable space. This is just the beginning – we are working on similar projects in various localities”, stated Minister Miriam Dalli.
Minister Dalli stated that these open spaces are used for various activities, including children’s parties. “Thus, even our kids can grow closer to nature, recognizing the importance of incorporating them in their daily lives.”
CEO Steve Ellul stated that in less than a month, this agency is already showing results in our communities with projects that will return green open spaces to residents.
“With this project, around 11,000 residents will have a green open space in less than 10 minutes walking distance from their residence. This is one of the objectives of Project Green which we are determined to deliver,” said Steve Ellul.
Project Green testendi l-park ta’ San Klement b’aktar minn 2,000 metru kwadru
Tinfetaħ picnic area ġdida fil-park ta’ San Klement f’Ħaż-Żabbar
Aktar minn 2,000 metru kwadru ta’ spazju miftuħ fil-Park ta’ San Klement f’Ħaż-Żabbar qed jingħata lura lill-pubbliku f’forma ta’ picnic area biex dan il-park tant popolari mar-residenti jkompli jitgawda.
Din il-parti l-ġdida tal-park infetħet uffiċjalment mill-Ministru għall-Ambjent Miriam Dalli u l-Kap Eżekuttiv ta’ Project Green Steve Ellul wara xogħol ta’ riġenerazzjoni li kien għaddej.
Ġie spjegat li tħawlu aktar minn 250 siġra u arbuxelli filwaqt li sar trattament mal-parti tal-ħajt tal-football biex jitħaddar ukoll. Bħala parti mix-xogħlijiet ta’ riġenerazzjoni ta’ dan il-ġnien tneħħew l-ispeċi invażivi u tpoġġew bankijiet magħmulin minn materjal sostenibbli. Bil-manutenzjoni li saret fuq il-ħajt tas-sejjieħ u l-wiring ta’ barra, din il-parti saret aktar sigura.
“F’din il-picnic area ġdida, bi ftit interventi u aktar siġar li ġew imħawla, Project Green għamlet dan il-post aktar sigur u komdu għal kulħadd. Dan hu biss il-bidu – qed naħdmu fuq ħafna proġetti simili f’diversi lokalitajiet,” qalet il-Ministru Miriam Dalli.
Il-Ministru Dalli kkumentat kif l-ispazji miftuħa qed jintużaw għall-attivitajiet differenti, fosthom anke għall-festini tat-tfal. “B’hekk anke t-tfal jikbru aktar qrib in-natura, u jagħrfu dawn il-postijiet bħala parti integrali mill-ħajja u mhux biss xi post fejn tmur darba fil.”
Il-Kap Eżekuttiv Steve Ellul saħaq li f’inqas minn xahar din l-aġenzija ġa qed tħalli l-frott fil-komunitajiet bi proġetti li qed jagħtu spazji miftuħa isbaħ lil dawk kollha li jħobbu l-ambjent.
“Minn dan il-proġett se jkunu qed igawdu madwar 11,000 resident, li se jkollhom aċċess għal dan il-ġnien f’inqas minn 10 minuti l-bogħod ta’ mixi minn fejn jgħixu. Din hija waħda mill-għanijiet prinċipali tal-aġenzija ta’ Project Green,” qal is-Sur Ellul.
