Project Green opens new picnic area at Marsaskala Family Park
Hundreds of families visited the Marsaskala Family Park to join in the activities of the first Halloween edition of the popular environmental event Wirt in-Natura, on Sunday.
Hosted by the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise and Project Green, Wirt in-Natura was packed with entertainment for all the family, including educational games, trick-or-treating and other Halloween activities, hands-on gardening, live music, food and drink stalls, art and craft sessions, face painting and more.
Teams from Ambjent Malta, Circular Economy Malta, the Energy and Water Agency, the Environment and Resources Authority, Saving our Blue campaign and WasteServ Malta met visitors to share information and advice about different environmental themes.
Sunday’s Wirt in-Natura also marked the opening of a new, 1,300-square-metre picnic area in part of the park that was previously unused. Project Green regenerated this area with a flower-shaped shading structure, new trees and shrubs, picnic tables and other related works.
Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli noted that, every year, Wirt in-Natura brings many families closer to Malta’s parks.
“Green open spaces have a significant positive impact on our wellbeing and quality of life. We are working tirelessly to improve our existing parks, while creating many new ones in different localities. The new picnic area we started using today is adding new facilities to make it easier for people to spend more time at this park,” Minister Miriam Dalli said.
Project Green CEO Steve Ellul explained that the new picnic area at the Marsaskala Park presents a fusion of artistry and functionality to ensure that this open space can be used throughout the year, reducing weather restrictions.
“Project Green is determined to continue attracting people to the parks, whilst providing a platform for local artists and Maltese culture. Wirt in-Natura is another in a series of events we are organising to give people a natural environment for relaxation and fun with their loved ones,” Mr Ellul said.
In December, the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise will be hosting the third edition of Christmas in the Park, another popular environmentally themed family event at the Salina National Park, St Paul’s Bay.

Project Green jiftaħ żona ġdida għall-picnics fil-Park tal-Familja ta’ Marsaskala
Matul il-jum tal-Ħadd, mijiet ta’ familji żaru l-Park tal-Familja ta’ Marsaskala biex jieħdu sehem fl-attivitajiet tal-ewwel edizzjoni ta’ Halloween tal-attività popolari Wirt in-Natura.
Imtellgħa mill-Ministeru għall-Ambjent, l-Enerġija u l-Intrapriża u Project Green, Wirt in-Natura kienet mimlija divertiment għall-familja kollha, b’logħob edukattiv, attivitajiet marbuta ma’ Halloween, sessjonijiet ta’ arti u crafts, taħriġ prattiku dwar il-pjanti, face painting u attivitajiet oħra għat-tfal, mużika, ikel u xorb, fost oħrajn.
Ingħaqdu wkoll timijiet minn Ambjent Malta, Circular Economy Malta, l-Aġenzija għall-Enerġija u l-Ilma, l-Awtorità għall-Ambjent u r-Riżorsi, il-kampanja Saving our Blue u WasteServ Malta fejn iltaqgħu ma’ dawk li attendew għal din l-attività biex jaqsmu tagħrif u pariri dwar għadd ta’ temi ambjentali.
Waqt din l-attività, għall-ewwel darba nfetħet żona ġdida ta’ 1,300 metru kwadru għall-picnics, f’parti mill-Park li qabel ma kinitx tintuża. Project Green irriġenerat din iż-żona bit-tħawwil ta’ diversi siġar u arbuxelli u installat aktar picnic benches u struttura li toffri dell u kenn.
Il-Ministru għall-Ambjent, l-Enerġija u l-Intrapriża Miriam Dalli spjegat li ta’ kull sena, Wirt in-Natura tqarreb aktar familji lejn il-parks f’Malta.
“L-ispazji miftuħa jħallu impatt pożittiv sinifikanti fuq il-benesseri u l-kwalità tal-ħajja tan-nies. Qed naħdmu bla heda biex intejbu l-parks li għandna diġà, filwaqt li noħolqu ħafna oħrajn ġodda f’lokalitajiet differenti. Iż-żona għall-picnics ġdida li bdejna nużaw illum qed iżżid faċilitajiet ġodda biex ikun eħfef għall-familji li jqattgħu aktar ħin f’dan il-park,” qalet Miriam Dalli.
L-Uffiċjal Kap Eżekuttiv ta’ Project Green Steve Ellul spjega li ż-żona ġdida għall-picnics fil-Park ta’ Marsaskala tgħaqqad flimkien l-arti u l-funzjonalità, biex tiżgura li dan l-ispazju miftuħ ikun jista’ jintuża matul is-sena kollha, b’inqas restrizzjonijiet minħabba t-temp.
“Project Green kommessa li tkompli tattira lill-pubbliku lejn il-parks filwaqt li toffri pjattaforma għall-artisti lokali u l-kultura Maltija. Wirt in-Natura hija fost l-attivitajiet li qed norganizzaw biex nagħtu lin-nies ambjent naturali għar-rilassament u d-divertiment mal-għeżież tagħhom”, qal is-Sur Ellul.
F’Diċembru li ġej, il-Ministeru għall-Ambjent, l-Enerġija u l-Intrapriża se jorganizza t-tielet edizzjoni ta’ Christmas in the Park, attività popolari oħra b’tema ambjentali fi żmien il-Milied, fil-Park tas-Salina, f’San Pawl il-Baħar.
