Shape your space – Sindki u kunsilliera jżuru l-White Rocks bħala parti minn proċess biex isir park nazzjonali

Numru ta’ sindki u kunsilliera ngħaqdu mal-Ministru għall-Ambjent, l-Enerġija u l-Indafa Pubblika Miriam Dalli fi żjara l-White Rocks bħala parti mill-proċess biex it-trasformazzjoni ta’ din l-art tinbidel f’wieħed minn tliet parks nazzjonali ġodda.

Il-kunsilli lokali li jiffurmaw parti mir-Reġjun Lvant, magħmul mil-lokalitajiet li huma qrib tal-White Rocks, kif ukoll it-tmexxija ta’ dan ir-Reġjun, bdew jaqsmu l-ideat inizjali tagħhom hekk kif bħalissa l-pubbliku huwa mistieden jgħaddi l-proposti tiegħu fuq parksinmalta.mt/have-your-say/.

Matul iż-żjara, il-Ministru Dalli spjegat kif il-Gvern, permezz ta’ Project Green, għaddej bil-ġbir tal-proposti u l-ideat tan-nies sabiex dawn l-ispazji tassew ikunu ġew minn nies għan-nies.

Fost l-ideat li ssemmew waqt din l-attività kien hemm diversi proposti għal żoni sportivi, fosthom track għaċ-ċiklisti u l-joggers, l-użu tal-moll eżistenti għat-trasport fuq l-ilma, kif ukoll high ropes. Issemmew ukoll il-bżonn ta’ faċilitajiet sanitarji pubbliċi u faċilità ta’ Park & Ride.  Il-kunsilliera saħqu wkoll fuq l-importanza li jiġi rispettat l-ambjent naturali taż-żona.

“Ir-rispons tan-nies qed ikun pożittiv, b’għaqdiet differenti, nies minn setturi differenti u stakeholders li qed jersqu ‘l quddiem biex jaqsmu l-ideat u x-xewqat tagħhom. Din hija l-fażi fejn inħeġġu lil kulħadd jieħu sehem bi ħġaru sabiex dan ikun tassew park li jolqot nies u etajiet differenti,” qalet il-Ministru Dalli.

Il-White Rocks hu post b’daqs ta’ 369,000 metru kwadru, jiġifieri d-daqs ta’ 53 ground tal-football, li sa ftit taż-żmien ilu kien maħsub li jiġi żviluppat u allura jinbena. Il-Gvern se jkun qed jirtira s-sejħa pubblika għall-iżvilupp tal-White Rocks, sabiex minflok isir park nazzjonali għat-tgawdija tan-nies.

White Rocks huwa wieħed minn tlett siti li se jsiru parks nazzjonali. It-tnejn l-oħra huma Fort Campbell fil-Mellieħa u Manoel Island fil-Gżira.

Shape your space – Mayors and councillors visit White Rocks as part of the process to create national park

A number of mayors and councillors joined the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli, on a visit to White Rocks as part of the process to transform this area into one of three new national parks.

The local councils that form part of the Eastern Region – made up of localities close to White Rocks – together with the Region’s leadership, have begun sharing their initial ideas. At the same time, the general public is being invited to submit their proposals via parksinmalta.mt/have-your-say/.

During the visit, Minister Dalli explained that the Government, through Project Green, is collecting proposals and ideas from the public so that these spaces truly become created by the people, for the people.

Among the ideas mentioned during the activity were several proposals for sports areas, including a track for cyclists and joggers, the use of the existing jetty for water transport, as well as high ropes facilities. The need for public sanitary facilities and a Park & Ride facility was also highlighted. Councillors also stressed the importance of respecting the area’s natural environment.

“The response from the public has been positive, with different organisations, people from various sectors, and stakeholders coming forward to share their ideas and aspirations. This is the phase where we encourage everyone to take part so that this truly becomes a park that caters for people of different ages and interests,” said Minister Dalli.

White Rocks covers an area of 369,000 square metres — equivalent to 53 football pitches — and until recently was intended for development and construction. Government will be withdrawing the public call for the development of White Rocks so that it can instead become a national park for public enjoyment.

White Rocks is one of three sites that will be developed into national parks. The other two are Fort Campbell in Mellieħa and Manoel Island in Gżira.
