Enemalta and the University of Malta sign MoU for cooperation in energy research programmes
A Memorandum of Understanding between Enemalta and the University of Malta will further strengthen the relationship between the two entities, leading to cooperation in research programmes by the Faculty of Engineering in the energy sectors.
Furthermore, this MoU will be of benefit to students as they will be exposed to engineering-related experiences with Enemalta tied to electricity generation and the electricity distribution system.
Thus, this MoU will pave the way for engineering students to have a hands-on experience in this industry with the potential of developing a career at Enemalta.
This MoU was signed by the University of Malta, the Faculty of Engineering, and Enemalta, in the presence of Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli.
“This agreement will enhance the cooperation between Enemalta and the university in the context of the challenges and opportunities facing the energy sector. Enemalta has a similar agreement with MCAST, and through this understanding we are now strengthening our synergy with educational institutions,” explained Minister Dalli.
The Minister explained that through its collaboration with the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, the government is giving due importance to such agreements with public entities and the private sector. This is another means of exposing students to work settings. Such collaborations provide students with the opportunity to experience work life in their area hands on, thus providing them with a holistic educational experience of both theory and practice.
Ing. Jonathan Scerri, Enemalta’s Chairman, stated that Enemalta looks forward to implementing this agreement, which will lead to a fruitful relationship between engineering students and seasoned Enemalta engineers and technicians. This will be achieved through more job placement opportunities for engineering students.
University Rector Prof. Alfred Vella stated that Enemalta is a natural partner to the Faculty of Engineering, as it has both the facilities and experience in the generation and electricity distribution industry. Prof. Vella stated that students must be exposed to the technology in this sector, while emphasising the university’s role in preparing
future engineers for the industry, providing Enemalta with the talents it requires. The university rector added that more Memoranda of Understanding at this level between Enemalta and other faculties should follow.

Ftehim bejn l-Enemalta u l-Università ta’ Malta għal kooperazzjoni fi programmi ta’ riċerka fl-oqsma tal- enerġija
Ftehim iffirmat bejn Enemalta u l-Università ta’ Malta huwa mistenni li jsaħħaħ ir-relazzjoni bejn iż-żewg entitajiet biex, fost oħrajn, tiżdied il-koperazzjoni fi programmi ta’ riċerka li jkunu qed isiru fl-oqsma tal-enerġija fil-Fakultà tal-Inġinerija.
Barra minn dan, dan il-Memorandum ta’ Ftehim ser ikun ta’ benefiċċju għall-istudenti minħabba li permezz tiegħu se jkunu esposti għal dawn l-esperjenzi tal-inġinerija marbuta mal-ġenerazzjoni tal-elettriku kif ukoll mas- sistema kumplessa tad-distribuzzjoni tal-elettriku.
Dan il-ftehim ser iwitti t-triq biex studenti tal-inġinerija jingħataw esperjenzi prattiċi f’dan il-qasam u eventwalment jaf ikun l-ewwel tarġa biex jibdew karriera ma’ Enemalta.
Il-ftehim ġie ffirmat mill-Università ta’ Malta, il-Fakultà tal-Inġinerija, u Enemalta, fil-preżenza tal-Ministru għall-Ambjent, l-Enerġija u l-Intrapriża Miriam Dalli.
“Is-settur tal-enerġija għandu sfidi u opportunitajiet; u koperazzjoni fir-riċerka bejn Enemalta u l-Università għandha tisfrutta dawn l-opportunitajiet. Enemalta diġà għandha ftehim simili mal-MCAST u grazzi għal dan il- ftehim tal-lum qed inkomplu nsaħħu s-sinerġija mal-istituzzjonijiet edukattivi”, spjegat il-Ministru Dalli.
Il-ministru tkellmet ukoll dwar kif anke permezz ta’ kollaborazzjoni mal-Ministeru għall-Edukazzjoni, l-Isport, iż-Żgħażagħ, ir-Riċerka u l-Innovazzjoni, il-gvern qiegħed jagħti importanza lil dawn il-ftehimiet li jintlaħqu kemm mal-entitajiet pubbliċi u mas-settur privat. Dan huwa mezz ieħor li jqarrab lill-istudenti lejn id-dinja tax- xogħol, u dawn il-kollaborazzjonijiet iwasslu biex l-istudenti jkollhom esperjenza edukattiva sħiħa ta’ teorija u wkoll prattika.
Iċ-Chairman ta’ Enemalta, l-Inġinier Jonathan Scerri, qal li Enemalta tħares ‘il quddiem biex timplimenta dan il-ftehim li se jwassal għal relazzjoni produttiva bejn l-istudenti tal-inġinerija u inġiniera u tekniċi ta’ Enemalta b’esperjenza. Dan se jseħħ permezz ta’ opportunitajiet ta’ esperjenzi ta’ xogħol għall-istudenti tal-inġinerija.
Ir-Rettur tal-Università, il-Professur Alfred Vella, sejjaħ dan il-ftehim bħala sħubija naturali għall-Fakultà ma’ Enemalta, li għandha l-faċilitajiet u l-esperjenza fil-qasam tal-ġenerazzjoni u d-distribuzzjoni tal-elettriku. Il- Professur Vella semma’ l-importanza li l-istudenti jkunu esposti għat-teknoloġija f’dan is-settur u saħaq dwar l- importanza li l-Università tkompli tipprovdi inġiniera, u qal li eventwalment dan iwassal biex Enemalta ssib it-talent li teħtieġ. Ir-Rettur tal-Università qal li jara skop ta’ kooperazzjoni fuq dan il-livell bejn Enemalta u fakultajiet oħra, fosthom dik tax-Xjenza fl-isfond li għall-quddiem qiegħed jiġi propost l-użu tal-idroġenu għall- ġenerazzjoni tal-elettriku.
