The #ClimateOn 2022 campaign has been launched: actions for a more sustainable life

For the second consecutive year, the #ClimateOn campaign is being launched to raise awareness for more sustainable living. The slogan ‘Activate Change’ implies action from different sectors of society. The themes chosen for this year are sustainable energy use, sustainable mobility, and sustainable financing.

At a press conference, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli stated that this campaign is a platform that focuses on awareness raising for companies, businesses, families, young people and students to adopt climate friendly practices.

“The Mediterranean in particular is a risk area for the impacts of climate change, including higher temperatures and rising sea levels. Timely action is needed to reduce and adapt to the impacts of this phenomenon”, explained Minister Dalli.

Malta, together with the European Union, has committed itself to an ambitious target to collectively reduce emissions by 55%. In fact, discussions are currently underway on the legal framework of the Fit-for-55 with which the countries of the European Union, including Malta, will reach these targets.

“This is a crucial moment for timely action, an action that moves from words to deeds through an educational campaign. Through various schemes, incentives and aids, the government is trying to incentivise change. At the same time, we must encourage innovative solutions that make our society resilient and able to adapt to the irreversible conditions that climate change is bringing”, said Miriam Dalli.

Initiatives and projects that can provide climate solutions, through research, innovation, technology, and the development of new methods, are being encouraged during this campaign. Reducing the use of fossil fuels and their associated emissions brings several benefits, including less pollution, fewer threats to human health, less impact on the environment and the destruction of biodiversity, as well as more actions to strengthen the economic sector.

The #ClimateOn campaign will continue its collaboration with various sectors, including the public sector, the private sector, the industrial sector as well as the education sector.

Tnediet il-kampanja #ClimateOn 2022: azzjonijiet favur ħajja aktar sostenibbli

Għat-tieni sena konsekuttiva, qed tiġi varata l-kampanja #ClimateOn biex titrawwem kuxjenza għall-azzjonijiet favur ħajja aktar sostenibbli. L-islogan tal-kampanja ‘Activate Change’ minnu nnifsu jħeġġeġ għall-azzjoni mis- setturi differenti tas-soċjetà. It-temi magħżulin għal din is-sena huma l-użu sostenibbli tal-enerġija, mobilità sostenibbli u finanzjament sostenibbli.

Waqt konferenza tal-aħbarijiet, il-Ministru għall-Ambjent, l-Enerġija u l-Intrapriża Miriam Dalli spjegat kif din il-kampanja hija pjattaforma li tiffoka fuq l-għarfien u tqajjem kuxjenza sabiex kumpaniji, negozji, familji, żgħażagħ u studenti jadottaw prattiċi favur il-klima.

“Il-Mediterran, b’mod partikolari, huwa żona ta’ riskju għall-impatti kkawżati mit-tibdil fil-klima, inkluż temperaturi ogħla u żieda fil-livell tal-baħar. Azzjoni f’waqtha hija meħtieġa biex innaqqsu u nadattaw għall-impatti li dan il-fenomenu qed iġib miegħu,” spjegat il-Ministru Dalli.

Malta flimkien mal-Unjoni Ewropea kkommettiet għall-mira ambizzjuża biex kollettivament jitnaqqsu l- emissjonijiet b’55%. Fil-fatt, bħalissa għaddejjin diskussjonijiet fuq l-qafas legali tal-Fit-for-55 li bih il-pajjiżi tal-Unjoni Ewropea – inkluż Malta – se jaslu għal dawn il-miri.

“Dan huwa mument kruċjali għall-azzjoni f’waqtha, azzjoni li permezz ta’ kampanja edukattiva nimxu mill-kliem għall-fatti. Permezz ta’ skemi, inċentivi u għajnuniet differenti, il-gvern qed jara li ninċentivaw il-bidla. Bl-istess mod, irridu nħeġġu soluzzjonijiet innovattivi li jagħmlu lis-soċjeta tagħna reżiljenti u kapaċi tadatta għal- kundizzjonijiet irriversibbli li qed iġġib miegħu it-tibdil fil-klima,” saħqet il-Ministru Miriam Dalli.

Matul din il-kampanja, qed jiġu mħeġġa inizjattivi u proġetti li jistgħu jipprovdu soluzzjonijiet klimatiċi, permezz ta’ riċerka, innovazzjoni, teknoloġija u żvilupp ta’ metodi ġodda. It-tnaqqis fl-użu tal-fossil fuels u l-emissjonijiet assoċjati magħhom iġib diversi benefiċċji, fosthom inqas tniġġis, inqas theddid għas-saħħa tal-bniedem, inqas impatt fuq l-ambjent u l-qerda tal-bijodiversità, kif ukoll iktar azzjonijiet li jsaħħu s-settur ekonomiku.

Il-kampanja #ClimateOn se tkompli bil-kollaborazjoni ma’ setturi varji, fosthom is-settur pubbliku, is-settur privat, is-settur industrijali, kif ukoll is-settur tal-edukazzjoni.
