1,800 tonnes of trash collected by various organisations, volunteer groups, and the private sector in Parks Malta’s clean-up effort
Parks Malta started planting 3,600 trees in open spaces as it marked the conclusion of its clean-up campaign in valleys and natural areas.
Every year, Parks Malta organises a clean-up campaign to raise public awareness about the need to protect valleys, while encouraging government entities, voluntary organisations, and the private sector to take part in clean-up efforts.
Parks Malta committed itself to plant trees according to the quantity of waste collected during these clean-up events. 1,800 tonnes of trash from 30 different valleys were collected during this campaign. As a result, Parks Malta will plant 3,600 trees – two trees for every tonne of waste collected.
“I am thankful to everyone who participated in these clean-ups in valleys and other areas during the last few months; however, I also encourage the public to keep our country clean. Such clean-up campaigns are aimed at demonstrating the importance of reducing, recycling, reusing, and responsibly disposing of waste”, Environment Minister Miriam Dalli stated.
More than 40 voluntary organisations, local councils, companies, and educational institutions took part in some 55 cleaning activities across the nation during this campaign. Several governmental entities joined them in this effort.
