Yet another edition of Wirt in-Natura has proven to be a success as hundreds gathered at the Salina National Park in St Paul’s Bay on Sunday to enjoy the park and the attractions that were set up.
Wirt in-Natura is an activity that promotes the natural environment and seeks to attract families and youths as it encourages visits to different open spaces. Each edition takes place in a different park, with activities suitable for all ages.
This edition of Wirt in-Natura was organised by the Ministry for the Environment (MEEE) together with Project Green, and in collaboration with Ambjent Malta, Circular Economy Malta, the Environment and Resources Authority, the Energy and Water Agency and Wasteserv. It was a fun-filled day with activities, teaching children about the natural environment, sustainability, and climate change, amongst others. Children were encouraged to paint their ideal park as they learned about indigenous trees and planted pots.
Singer and songwriter Ira Losco delivered a one-hour performance, captivating the audience.
“Wirt in-Natura continues to grow in popularity, and I’m pleased to see the number of people increasing from one edition to the next. This means that we are reaching our objective of raising more awareness about open spaces and how to make use of them without damaging the environment,” Environment Minister Miriam Dalli said. “As promised, we will continue to organise Wirt in-Natura on a regular basis so that more people may enjoy these open spaces and the work being done.”
Project Green CEO Steve Ellul spoke about the importance of bringing the parks back to life with activities that are interactive and promote the natural environment. He explained that events such as Wirt in-Natura and similar activities are important as they give children and youths an opportunity to enjoy different open spaces, of which otherwise they would not be aware.
Admission to Wirt in-Natura is free of charge.
